Birthday of Dr Rajendra Prasad- First President of the country.
  • Former Military Secretary Lt Gen Avadesh Prakash has been dismissed (senior-most Army officer to face court martial) from service after being found guilty on three counts by an army court in Guwahati in the Sukna land scam in West Bengal.
  • Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson inaugurated the newly constructed buildings of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, High Court, Inter-State Bus Terminus, City Convention Centre and Manipur Film Development Corporation Auditorium at Imphal this afternoon.
  • The Bihar Government has constituted a special Economic Offences Unit ( EOU) to deal with financial frauds in banks, cyber crimes, misappropriation of public funds and black marketing across the state. It will also investigate into counterfeiting of currency, drug trafficking and crimes related to antiquities. The EOU will function in addition to the two anti- corruption wings of the state administration- the Vigilance Investigation Bureau and the Special Investigation Bureau.
  • Sowing of major crops like wheat and rice has picked up in various parts of the country. Higher coverage of wheat has been reported from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana, while of rice is in progress in States like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Odisha.
  • Assam Government has decided to set up a border trade centre along Bhutan boundary at Darranga aiming at enhancing business with the neighbouring country. The State shares around 262 kilometres unfenced borders with Bhutan and considered to be a major trade partner of the neighbouring country in terms of electricity, cement, timber and wood products, handloom, handicrafts, minerals, petroleum products, machinery, food items, fruits and vegetables. Bhutan's import and export to Indian stood as 80% and 94% resp.
  • Assam government has taken initiative to implement Mission Double Cropping across the state from the current Rabi season to enhance the cropping intensity. Under the Mission Double cropping, seeds of potato, mustard, tomato, hybrid brinjal and summer paddy are being distributed among farmers. The mission would integrate other projects such as National Agriculture Extension Project, Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojna, among others.
  • A grateful nation is paying homage to the first President of the country Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his 126th anniversary today.
  • The 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is all set to come to a close  this evening with the screening of French director Luc Besson's 'The Lady', based on veteran Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
  • International Day for Persons with Disabilities is being  observed today to spread awareness about the rights, dignity and well-being of persons with disabilities, and aims at highlighting the importance of integrating disabled persons into all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life. UN General Assembly had launched a World Program of Action for Disabled Persons in 1982.This year the theme is, 'Together for a better world for all- including persons with disabilities in development'. According to the 2001 Census, there were more than 2% people with disabilities of the total population and 34% of this 2% are employed.
  • Bhopal is observing the 27th anniversary of internationally known Bhopal gas leak tragedy. It was on the intervening night of 2nd and 3rd December of 1984.
  • The Obama Administration has ruled out any apology to Islamabad  for the last week's predawn NATO air strike on two check posts along the Afghan border that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. It also hoped Islamabad would have its presence at the meeting which is being attended by some 85 countries and 15 international organisations.
  • The five fast-growing emerging economies, BRICS, today agreed to enhance local-level collaborations and join hands to tackle urbanization challenges in the 1st BRICS Friendship Cities and Local Governments Cooperation Forum meeting in Sanya of South China. The forum agreed to strengthen dialogue and cooperation in the fields of provincial and local partnerships, including infrastructure, human settlements, green economy, education and culture.
  • The United Nation's economist has warned that the world is on the brink of another recession, projecting that global economic growth will slow down further in 2012. Global growth forecast for next year to 2.6 per cent from 4 per cent in 2010. It has called 2012 a make-or-break year for the global economy, which will face a muddle through scenario and continue to grow at a slow pace.
  • The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) for another three months.
